Yesterday I had the pleasure of shooting the first ever TEDxYouth@Brum event held at the Hippodrome. If you're unaware of what TEDx is it's a completely volunteer ran event based on the TED format. I've been lucky enough to be part of the TEDxBrum team since 2013 so I was super jazzed to be involved in this event that was aimed towards younger people in Birmingham before TEDxBrum takes place this Sunday (If you wanna come and you should because it's amazing check out the bottom of this post.)
The full set will be available soon but for now here are some of my favourite shots from the day.
Michael Sani
Saffiyah Khan
Jazmin Sawyers
Rogue Play
Casey Bailey
AffieJam
Key Infinity
Kioko get their own section because the whole performance was just photography gold.
If this has got you in the mood to attend your own TEDx event then you're in luck. TEDxBrum takes place this Sunday in the full Hippodrome Theatre with a capacity of 1800 people. It's going to be absolutely magic and you can grab tickets here.
See you there!
After heading to the Sealife Centre a couple of weeks back with IGersBirmingham I decided to head over to their next event which took place on top of Fort Dunlop just outside of Birmingham City Centre. It was a bit chilly and more than a bit windy but as always I managed to grab some people to pose for me up there.
On my walkies I stopped the above stranger and asked if she would model for me. Within 1.2 seconds I could tell that she had modelled before because she was doing modelly things. It turned out that this stranger was in fact a model called Margarita. Obviously I jumped on this opportunity to place her all over the roof and photograph her for the rest of the evening.
I also managed to grab a few gents to pose for me. Here's a seleciton.
I also met a photographer called Fay and she nicely agreed to pose on a roof.
To finish things off I grabbed a photo of IGersBirmingham bossman and sexy model Fraser McGee.
Last night I headed over to my first ever IGers Birmingham meet at the National Sea Life Centre in Birmingham. I've never been a photographer meet up thing before; mainly because I associate them with old blokes talking about gear and taking crap macro photos of flowers but IGers Birmingham seemed like a cool bunch, plus they were doing it after hours at the Sea Life Centre so that seemed worth the visit.
Here are some photos from the hour and a half I had in there.
0.33am and a penguin.
As much as I went to this meet up with the intention to get back to my roots and take shots of something that isn't portraiture for once I couldn't resist. The dude above had the same eye colour as the water so it had to be shot.
I placed a LumeCube off to his right to counterbalance the strong light in the tank with the darkness of the viewing room and grabbed this shot.
0.33am as this guy is known on Instagram is only 14 years old and already is killing it. Go give him a look.
I also ran into this couple in the tunnel (Ocuk & Mini.Sophie_ on Instagram) and asked them to pose for me. The piggyback was their idea.
Ocuk & Mini.Sophie_
I don't know the name of this person but I couldn't resist grabbing a shot of her sat underneath this tank full of little Nemo fishes (Nemo fishes is I'm sure the correct terminology)
A couple more shots of assorted people who were buzzing around.
When I first got into the place I knew the underwater tunnel was going to be a hot spot and I also knew I wanted to try and get some long exposures there so I hurried straight to it and grabbed some shots before it got busy.
13 second exposure. 26mm.
.....and because I couldn't go to the Sealife Centre and photograph zero actual sealife here's some shots of some penguins.
Thanks to IGers Birmingham for having me along.
Thanks to the Sealife Centre for having us.
Thanks to Kris Askey for hookin' me up.
Thanks to the IGers who let me photograph them.
