Bartley Board

Firstly, thanks so much to everyone who got involved / engaged with my virtual photo booth project. It started out as a little thing with a few mates and very quickly snowballed into me getting a ton of submissions every single day from all over the world. Love ya all.

So what’s next?..

Whilst working on the photo booth project I was thinking to myself how could I take the general premise of models shooting at home and expand it a lil’ bit so it’s not just headshots and white walls and I came up with this new project.

The general jist of it is models can come here, select one of the following moodboards as inspiration and then go away and do their own thing before sending it over to me to edit and format. I also wanted to make sure the wider community could get involved so on top of that I want anybody who’s interested who may have a concept for a shoot to submit their moodboards as well, if I think they’re cool I’ll add them to this list and credit you in the final work.

So without further ado here are the starter moodboards to get this show on the road. (Click images to expand)

Garden Party

Vibe - Hot & sticky summer. Bikinis, paddling pools, hose pipes, ice lollys, grass, water & sweat.

Tone - Fun, playful.

Song - Petite Meller - Baby Love.

Around The House

Vibe - Gritty & raw. Beds, sheets, underwear, harsh light, grain.

Tone - Sexy, candid, rough, power, aggression.

Song - Kavinsky - Protovision

Fresh & Clean

Vibe - Clean simplicity. Neutral, natural light, softness, calm, chill, denim.

Tone - Serenity, beauty.

Song - Bon Iver - I Can’t Make You Love Me.

Top Tips

  • The moodboards exist to give an idea of tone. They aren’t prescriptive so there’s no need to attempt to recreate them exactly. Instead take the moodboard as a whole and interpret it’s feel in a way that suits you. You may shoot selfies, you may use the self timer, you may use someone you’re currently with to help with the shots. The technique and process isn’t important. If it feels right it is right, allow your creativity to lead you where it wants to lead you.

  • Don’t worry if all of the shots aren’t exactly what you want, that’s why I’m here on the other end of the computer. I’ll take what you send in all it’s raw and unpolished excellence and create something out of it.

  • Feel free to message me for advice / help. It’s a collaboration so I’m here to try and help you to do the best job possible.

How to get involved

  • Take one of the above moodboards and get shooting. Take as many photos as possible and don’t worry about perfection. Be as YOU as possible.

  • Once you’re done upload the photos to WeTransfer and get them over to me either through my Instagram or through the contact form on this site.

  • Once I’ve got them I’ll take what you send and create a set.

  • I 10000% would love to see concepts that models have themselves. If you’re a model and what to get involved and have an idea then go wild.

  • If you’re not a model but would like to get involved feel free to submit a moodboard for consideration. Follow the same template as I used above, 10 photos, a written description and a song.

Other Details

As always I can’t guarantee I’ll edit and work on every set I receive. That doesn’t mean what you’ve done is bad necessarily, it just means I’ve either had too many submissions or what you’ve done doesn’t suit my style / vision.

Any other questions just give me a shout.

Cheers,

Bartley

Virtual Photobooth - Get Involved

Hey all,

Thought I’d put together a little guide on how to get involved with my virtual photobooth project so here you go.

What is it?

You take some photos of yourself against a plain white wall and send them through to me. I’ll take a look at them, pick out a selection, edit them, put a few into photobooth style grids and send these grids back to you alongside the individual edited photos.

How do I get involved?

Take upper body photos of yourself against a plain white wall and send them to me via Dropbox or WeTransfer.

Tips for taking photos?

  1. Pick a plain wall with no visual distractions or detailing on it.

  2. Use the best camera you have, for most people that will be the rear camera on their phone but if you have a DSLR or “proper” camera feel free to use that. The better quality images you send me the more chance you have that I’ll use them.

  3. Wear a plain t-shirt, vest, bra or nothing on top. The focus is your face so I don’t want clothes to distract from it.

  4. Send me a big selection of shots so I have plenty to choose and work with.

  5. Ideally use a wall by a window so there’s plenty of light, if you have a ring light or artificial light source that works too. Well lit shots are ideal for me but be careful not to “blow the highlights” as this is something I can’t easily fix in the edit.

How do I get them to you?

Once you have a Dropbox or WeTransfer link send it to me using the contact form on this site or via DM on my Instagram.

Will I definitely get my photos edited and used by you?

This project has proven to be much more popular than I imagined so I can’t guarantee it, at the moment I’m sharing one set of images per day and at the moment at least I’m recieving wayyy more sets than I can put out. Priority will go to image sets that are of good technical quality, combine a good variety of expressions and in general just have a vibe that I like. Feel free to drop me a DM on Insta first and I’ll probs be able to give you an indication on this if you dont want to shoot everything without knowing in advance.

Do I need to be a model / a woman to be involved?

No, you just need to have a cool face and a vibe that I like + the ability to bring that through on camera. Submissions from older people / men are encouraged. That being said this is a selective project so I am actively choosing people based on whether I think they look cool on camera for this particular project.

Here are some examples of photos I’ve been sent that tick the boxes for what I’m looking for.
